Grenoside Primary

Governors

Following the Ofsted inspection in January 2015 which gave the school a judgement of Good the IEB (Interim Executive Board) moved to establish a Governing Body for Grenoside Community Primary School. The size of the Governing Body was determined as 12 with a pattern of membership which needed to meet the 2012 regulations for Governing Bodies of maintained schools. This is contained in the Instrument of Government below.

The expectation was that the Governing Body would bring in a broader representation from the community of Grenoside, the Headteacher of the school and some continuity from the IEB in the membership. The Governing Body was established on 25th March 2015.

The purpose of a Governing Body is to:

a. Ensure clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction;

b. Hold the headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance management of staff; and

c. Overseeing the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.

Behind these three strands there are a multitude of tasks and to meet these expectations we each take responsibility for different aspects of the school’s work and discuss and decide what we are to do when we come together in committees or the full Governing Body. We are informed by the professionals at the school and take or are given advice by external consultants we employ or by Ofsted as the school inspectorate.

We expect to keep you informed about our actions and decisions and to canvas your views and opinions. If you need to contact us you can do this through the school office or the enquiries@ school email.
